I just explored a new web tool ( for me!) called Tumblr. It is a photo sharing/ blogging tool. This was my first time using such a tool. I found it quite easy to explore and navigate through. I also thought it was very easy to upload pictures, I liked how they were displayed automatically without me having to insert them in a certain location. The program did that for you, that made it easier. I know at times I have had difficulty aligning several pictures into a post. I liked how I could also add a link to the post to have others check out the site. For instance I posted several pictures that I took at the Museum of Natural History on a Girl Scout Trip we took. I was then able to post the link to the Museum very easily. I think this would be a great tool to use with my students for research projects students could post pictures of their topic, include text, video, etc. Afterwards students could then interact with each other and comment on the blog posts.
My name is Carmella, this was my first year as a librarian. I work in a K-12 school at the Hunter Tannersville Central School District. I spent my time divided between 2 schools. For my first year as a new librarian it was overwhelming at times, so many things to learn. I also became the new webmaster at the school. I was responsible for creating a new school website and updating existing pages. I taught information literacy skills and typing skills. I feel this program will give me additional knowledge of tools I can use with my students. Next year I will be incorporating technology lessons into my curriculum as well. I feel this is the perfect opportunity for me to explore new tools.
